Chapter 11

Your Seven Steps to Success

A Brief Summary

The preceding text illustrates the holistic development derived from the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique. To the uninitiated, hearing of the many benefits resulting from the practice of a simple mental technique may create a credibility gap. Individuals who have not begun the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique cannot help but doubt and wonder how such a simple technique can produce such a wide range of benefits in so many facets of one's life. To summarize: the Transcendental Meditation technique connects you to being, that basic nurturing inner essence of life, your own inner 'self.' By contacting this inner value, which we can also call "pure creative intelligence," all outer aspects of your life will flourish. Connect with your inner self, gain nourishment from within, and health, wisdom, success and happiness will be yours spontaneously and naturally.

This same principle is seen in the growth of a tree. By watering the root we enable the tree to be nourished from the basic level of the sap, and this nourishment spontaneously and naturally develops all facets of life in the tree; its leaves, stems, branches, buds, bark, trunk, etc.

Because of the holistic benefits derived from the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, the Transcendental Meditation technique is being recognized as a major scientific discovery in human development. As a salesman, whose livelihood depends on the level of your personal development, you cannot afford to be without this simple sales training tool. The Transcendental Meditation program makes the pep talk, manipulation and theatrical presentation types of sales development obsolete. Old schools of thought will produce old ways of doing things and old results. Developing salesmen to make full use of their mental potential is one effective way to meet the challenges of our times. The Transcendental Meditation technique achieves this.

There are many philosophies and organizations that embrace the truths expounded in this book. However, no other school of thought offers the technique for realizing the truths expounded in such a systematic, simple and direct manner, except for the Transcendental Meditation program. There are many techniques available in the marketplace which produce various beneficial results. But none that I have studied - and I have done thirty years of research in this field - other than the Transcendental Meditation technique, connects you to your inner infinite being, and therefore produces holistic beneficial effects. If I knew of another shortcut to personal development I would have included it in this book.

Transcendental Meditation opens the awareness to the infinite reservoir of energy, creativity, and intelligence that lies deep within everyone.

By enlivening this most basic level of life, Transcendental Meditation is that one simple procedure which can raise the life of every individual and every society to its full dignity, in which problems are absent and perfect health, happiness, and a rapid pace of progress are the natural features of life.

Experience Is Necessary

I did not write this book as a philosophical dissertation on a new sales training concept, but rather, to provide salesmen with an introduction to the practice and experience of an advanced sales training method. In order for knowledge to be complete, both intellectual understanding and experience are necessary. Experience is the best teacher. How complete is knowledge without experience? How is it possible to explain the experience of sight to a person blind since birth? A blind person has only the experience from the senses of hearing, taste, touch and smell from which to draw an inference. The sense of sight, however, is too different from the other senses for the blind person to be able to know what sight is on the basis of intellectual inquiry and inference from his other sensory experiences. At best, a blind person could conceptually appreciate the benefits of seeing. He intellectually would know that with sight he would not bump into things. He could move faster, be able to catch a ball, etc. However, a few seconds experiencing sight will do more to teach the heretofore blind person about sight than could be achieved in a lifetime of intellectual inquiry about sight.

The Transcendental Meditation technique opens your awareness to a new state of consciousness, transcendental consciousness. Physiologists have determined this state to be unlike the waking, dreaming or sleep states of consciousness. How is it possible, then, to communicate verbally what transcendental consciousness is to persons who only had the experience of waking, dreaming and sleeping states of consciousness from which to draw an inference? It is not possible. Experience is necessary. Short of the experience, the best that can be done is to discuss the benefits that result from the experience of transcendental consciousness. However, discussing the benefits will not produce the benefits. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting.

Fortunately, the Transcendental Meditation technique is easily learned in seven basic steps.
